February 2015 On Friday, February 6th contractor BAM starts pouring concrete for the first part of the basement floor of world’s largest bicycle garage: 175,000 liters of concrete, approximately 30,000 liters per hour, which means three trucks per hour. This first deposit provides a floor thickness of 25 centimeters, later on topped with another screed of 7 centimeters. During 2015 another eight times of depositing concrete is necessary to complete the basement floor.
Next to Utrecht Central Station a garage of three floors will be built, with room for 12,500 bicycles. Ector Hoogstad Architecten designed in collaboration with Royal Haskoning DHV and Sant & Co the new station square, including the bicycle garage. The first part of the square and the garage with room for 6,000 bicycles will be ready in 2016. The entire project is completed in 2018.
