February 2012 The University of Cologne, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Germany, has invited Ector Hoogstad Architecten to participate in a closed competition for the design of a new building for its department of Chemistry and Didactics of Natural Sciences. The university is currently revamping its spacious and green campus, which is situated just southwest of the historic city, in order to reinforce the connection between city and university. The new 25.000sqm building will be an imported milestone in this redevelopment. The competition entry will consist of a complete design, that needs to be submitted mid april. For the occasion EHA has joined forces with urban design firm Urbis Stadsontwerp, also based in Rotterdam.
