EHA selected to design Annie M.G. Schmidtschool

Ector Hoogstad Architecten is selected by De Haagse Scholen to design a new building for the Annie M.G. Schmidtschool. Our winning plan shows a building that is not only accurate and appropriate, but also fun, positive and maybe even a bit recalcitrant, Annie M.W. Schmidt worthy.
At the Jacob de Graefflaan the school will look out over a number of houses. That’s why we present a  volume that on the one hand encloses the playgrounds and on the other hand serves as a sound wall. The heart of the school consists of the entrance hall followed by the playroom, together to be transformed into a theater. A large void connects this central space with the class rooms, situated on the ground floor, first floor and an attic. Behind this main volume we locate the BSO and a gymnasium.

The next step is to start with the preliminary design together with parents, staff, students and neighbors. The new building for the Annie M. G. Schmidt School is a total engineer under the responsibility of Ector Hoogstad Architecten, with IMd Raadgevende Ingenieurs (construction) and Wolf Dikken (installations and building physics).
