April 2021 Our new project in Ede is coming along nicely. The preliminary design of Het Streek Lyceum, which we made in collaboration with our friends of Atelier Van Berlo, has now been approved by the steering committee and enthusiastically received by the municipality's Beauty Committee. In the mean time we have started working on the final design, which should be ready at the end of May. To this end, we work integrally - in BIM, of course - with our consultants IMd (structural engineering), Sijperda Hardy (building installations) and Copijn (landscape design).
'Het Nieuwe Streek' will be a carefully crafted building with a relief-rich façade composed of brickwork and wood. Standing out is the wing for technology education. We translated the importance that the school attaches to their 'Technasium' into a protruding transparent volume with a frame of champagne-coloured anodized aluminium. The Technasium is supported by a green hill that emerges from the landscape. This architectural gesture forms a gateway to the "World of Het Streek" beyond it. In the floorplan, the building is organized around a large multifunctional assembly hall, which is visually connected to the schoolyard with a double-height transparent facade. A large triple sports hall has been integrated into the volume in such a way that it is imperceptible from the outside, thus avoiding the occurrence of unfriendly blind facades.
In addition to being beautiful, pleasant and functional, Het Nieuwe Streek will also be a particularly sustainable building. It will be highly energy-efficient through, among other things, triple glass and solar panels, and i twill not consume any natural gas or other fossil fuels. Only materials with a low environmental impact will be used, such as wooden facades. Materials harvested in the dismantling of the existing building will be reused in the new building and the surrounding landscaping. The building is climate-adaptive and ecologically supportive, with a predominantly green schoolyard for water buffering and lots of extra added new nature, such as the overgrown patio facades. Furthermore, 'Het Nieuwe Streek' will be a healthy building, with plenty of daylight and interesting views and CO2-controlled ventilation, complying with the Dutch 'Frisse Scholen' program.
Work on the final design is well underway. If everything goes according to plan, construction will start in 2023 and students will move into their new building after the 2024 summer holidays.
