MetaForum declared National Monument

Mrs. Jet Bussemaker, Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Sciences, has officially announced the list of the 89 most important Dutch buildings in the 1959-1965 era that are now effectively nominated to become National Monuments. MetaForum is on this list. This is of course above all a tribute to Jacques Choisy, the Swiss architect who originally designed the former W-hal as a young project architect in the office of S.J. van Embden. It was his first realised design. But it also recognises the quality of the transformation as designed by Ector Hoogstad Architecten. This nomination proves that with a careful and respectful design approach it is possible to radically transform monumental buildings while preserving their cultural and historical value. It is yet another boost for this highly successful project that was already greeted with a lot of enthusiasm by its occupant as well as the international press, and which is now also in the running for two important Dutch prizes: BNA Building of the Year 2013 and the Golden Phoenix, the prize for the Netherlands' best building renovation- and/or transformation.
