October 2012 On the eve of the official opening ceremony on October 22nd, to be performed by Wim van de Donk, Commissioner to the Queen for the Province of North-Brabant, we are proud to present MetaForum, the new 'main building' of Eindhoven University of Technology. Ector Hoogstad Architecten was selected to design this large scale and complicated project back in 2007, out of a very strong field of competitors. The building consists of a re-used historic machine hall that now contains the university library and all kinds of student services and a newly built extension on top of it, which is now the new home of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences. This makes it a perfect example of the type of project that is becoming more and more important in the Netherlands: finding spatially and technically innovative ways to re-use existing buildings, in this case in combination with a spectacular vertical extension. Please also visit our project page for more pictures, drawings and a full description.
