September 2013 During a spectacular evening in London on Friday 20th September the Leaf Awards 2013 winners were announced with MetaForum as winner in the category ‘Refurbishment of the Year’.
On the campus of Eindhoven University of Technology, Ector Hoogstad Architecten has transformed the historic W-hal, one of the oldest buildings on the site, into a modern, new main building accommodating the university facilities. The project also encompasses a large newbuild section: new premises for the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science built on top of the hall. The design has surprised the jury: “This is an extremely well judged and assembled project with a strong focus on sustainability through specific strategies, going well beyond the fact that building reuse is in itself sustainable.”
Among the other well known winners of the evening were Henning Larssen Architects, Steven Holl Architects, Yasuhiro Yamashita and Atelier Tekuto, and Oscar Tusquets Blanca. 2013 Overall Winner was archi5 with Marsan Mediatheque in Mont de Marsan (France). Sir Peter Hall received the Lifetime Achievement Award in architectural community.
