Orion off to a good start

Orion, the new educational facility for Wageningen University and Research Center, designed by Ector Hoogstad Architecten, is now operational. It is one of two central facilities containing laboratories, classrooms, restaurants, a bar and a special auditorium with a capacity over 700 seats that can be subdivided into separate lecture halls. The building has a characteristic and somewhat puzzling pentagonal floor plan and is one of the “monoliths”  in the park like central green on the campus. Its shiny and smooth facade of green metallic enamelled glass, creates an effective contrast with its neighbours, designed by Quist Wintermans Architecten en Raphael Vinoly Architects. According to schedule the building has been in full use as of this week. A very crowded and fun party was thrown to inaugurate the new students’ cafe “The Spot”. The official opening of the building will follow in a few weeks. By that time we will publish a full report on the building.
