July 2013 Queen Máxima of the Netherlands will take care of the official opening ceremony at the Wageningen University Campus on September 2nd 2013. The ceremony does take place at the opening of the Academic Year of Wageningen UR (University & Research centre). This year’s theme is 'Responsible Growth'’. Special speakers include Henk Kamp, Minister of Economic Affairs and Jason Clay, senior vice president of World Wide Fund for Nature.
Orion designed by Ector Hoogstad Architecten (EHA) is, next to the Forum building, the second educational building on the Wageningen Campus and facilitates 2600 students. The building contains practical rooms, teaching rooms, catering and a special auditorium with a capacity of 744 seats dividable into six separate classrooms.
During the building process much attention was paid to sustainability. The building has a GreenCalc score of more than 480 and is the most sustainable building at the Wageningen Campus.
