January 2015 At the moment one is engaged with the stripping of the former Ministry of VROM in The Hague, designed by Jan Hoogstad. All interior walls, installations, ceilings and flooring will be removed. A huge job for a building of 99.000m2. Part of the low-rise will be demolished and replaced by a similar volume with a different structure for the integration of large meeting rooms. The materials on the site are separated into five different groups. At the waste treatment plant these materials will be further sorted so 99% of all waste can be recycled.
In May 2014, the central government awarded the contract for the renovation and operation of Rijnstraat 8 to PoortCentraal, a consortium of BAM, ISS and OMA. To connect past and future of this landmark building OMA, BAM and Ector Hoogstad Architecten worked together. This resulted in the winning and again an innovative design. Completion of this new Rijkskantoor takes place in late 2016.
