June 2013 Last week RE-NL presented during a pitch on the PROVADA Transformation Square a study for the Marconi Towers in Rotterdam. RE-NL specializes in existing buildings, and unites the expertise of four well-known, independent organizations in the Dutch construction industry: engineering consultancy ABT, Bremen Bouwadviseurs, Nelissen Engineering and Ector Hoogstad Architecten. Download the pdf of the plan presentation.
The municipal services who are housed in the Marconi Towers will leave soon. What can you do with these buildings, together 80.000m2 and suddenly mostly empty? Usable buildings, but situated in an unattractive port landscape between Rotterdam and Schiedam. On the other hand: easily accessible by car and public transport and with beautiful panoramic views of Rotterdam and the Port of Rotterdam. RE-NL focuses on strengthening the greatest qualities: by placing an airbridge on top of the towers as a connecting element with a leisure program of bars, restaurants, and wellness expo. The airbridge gives all users and residents of all three towers new facilities and spectacular views! An additional entrance makes the airbridge accessible to everyone. The Marconi Towers become an unique attraction and will be the new icon of the port of Rotterdam.
The responses to the plan tell that the Rotterdam public is enthusiastic about such a transformation. Soon will follow conversations with the owners of the complex.
