Wenzhou Kean University

Ector Hoogstad Architecten, again in collaboration with Shanghai partner SIADR, is one of the finalists in the design competition for the new campus of Wenzhou Kean University in China. Wenzhou is a rapidly developing coastal city about 350 kilometres south of Shanghai, which – like all China’s booming cities – is investing heavily in the development of higher education. For the development of new educational programmes the local Wenzhou University chose Kean University of New Jersey, USA as a partner. In the mean time an entirely new campus of about 380.000sqm of floorspace will be built in the southern city extension on site covering more than 70 hectares. Our competition entry, which has to be finished by mid april, will contain not only a masterplan for the entire site, but also sketch designs of the main university buildings, housing complexes and sports facilities. For this competition Ector Hoogstad Architecten has teamed up with MAXWAN architects & urbanists, also based in Rotterdam. The designs will be presented to the jury in Wenzhou in the second half of april.
