June 2013 The Utrecht city government has approved the definitive design for Station Square East, made by Ector Hoogstad Architecten in collaboration with Royal Haskoning DHV, Sant & Co, ARUP and DGMR. To celebrate this occasion a new film was published. It shows how "the world's largest bikeshed" (as the project bureau understatedly calls it) is integrated in the area, how it works, and what a drive through will look like. In the future 12.500 people will use the building to park their bikes and hop on a bus or train at the Netherlands' busiest public transport hub, or to go shopping in the country's largest shopping mall. The design team is already busy preparing the extensive building specification documents. Meanwhile, construction of the project, which will be executed in a large number of phases, is already underway. The first bikes can be parked here in 2016; full completion will be in 2018.
