September 2013 On Monday September 2, 2013 Queen Maxima has opened the new teaching building Orion at Wageningen University on Wageningen Campus. The opening coincides with the opening of the Academic Year of Wageningen UR (University & Research center). The theme of the opening was Responsible Growth. Special speakers included Henk Kamp, Minister of Economic Affairs, Jason Clay, senior vice president of World Wide Fund for Nature and president and chairman of Wageningen University dr. Aalt Dijkhuizen.
Jason Clay discussed the challenge how food and agriculture can help attain economic growth, because the demand for food will double in the upcoming years. At the same time, the impact on our natural resources and the environment will have to be reduced. In other words: we will have to attain ‘more with less’.
Orion is the most energy-efficient building on the Wageningen Campus with a GreenCalc score of over 480. This score is mainly achieved through efficient use of sustainable energy.
