EHA & Atelier Van Berlo have been selected to jointly design Het Streek, a new school for 1.500 students in the city of Ede, near Arnhem. Our design proposal aims to create the conditions for the Het Streek-community to become an even more close-knit community. The Codiv-19 crisis has emphasized the need, especially for teenagers, to meet and interact in real life, to exchange ideas, to learn from- and with each other. Therefore the social and spatial heart of the building, a multifunctional auditorium and theatre, stimulates events around sharing and creating. This main hall also directly connects to the surrounding green landscape through a wide glass facade, inviting parents, neighbours and businesses partners to join the community. Abundant sports facilities, in and outside the building, stimulate a healthy lifestyle and add further to the community-building, because nothing connects people more than sports.
The building will of course be very sustainable, with a minimized energy use, circular materials and a healthy indoor climate. Over the next months we will develop the design, in close collaboration with the users and client. The design team members are EHA & Atelier Van Berlo (architect), Imd (structural design), Copijn (landscape design), Multical (cost consultant), Sijperda Hardy (HVAC- and building physics consultant) and ICS (design management).
