Within the historic centre of Leiden, Ector Hoogstad Architecten designed a modern pop venue while reusing the existing monumental houses and brick factory. The highlights of the building are the two new concert halls (accommodating 750 and 200 people), with the various balconies providing a theatrical effect. The result is a building in which old and new complement each other, in terms of both functionality and ambiance. The entrance to the foyer is situated in the carefully restored monumental façade on the Marktsteeg while the new corten steel façade follows the rhythm of the old houses. The same materials are repeated in the interior: steel, brick, stone and wood.
